Gulf system to bring showers and storms to Florida this weekend
Have any plans for this upcoming weekend?
If they're outdoors, you may want to keep an umbrella or raincoat handy with you.
As a storm system is expected to develop in the Gulf on Friday, the latest long-range models continue to drift this system towards the west coast of Florida late Saturday, before crossing the state on Sunday. People should expect increasing rain chances to come along with that.

Friday evening tropical update: wave set to enter Gulf this weekend
Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin says confidence increasing in limited impacts to the northern Gulf coast from Gulf disturbance.
While we do have more areas being highlighted for potential development in the Atlantic, we still do not have any named storms. Invests 98 and 99 in the central and eastern Gulf have the best chance to develop in the near future, through interestingly, the models tend to dissipate this over the open ocean. Another wave closer to the Lesser Antilles seems to have a better chance, based on the ensemble models, of moving into the Caribbean and impacting the Greater Antilles next week. Also a wave still over Africa also seems to have a better chance for development in the long term. NONE of these appear to pose a threat to the Gulf.

Tropical Weather Update: Depression likely in the Gulf this weekend
A tropical wave over Central American will move into the Bay of Campeche this weekend. As it moves northwest through the western Gulf of Mexico Sunday/Monday it will likely become a tropical depression or storm. While the system lifts north toward Texas it will bring along a large area of tropical moisture.
The chance for rain will increase across a large portion of the Gulf Coast by Sunday. The system will be a slow mover, so expect the chance for rain to linger through early next week. Right now, the forecast keeps the heaviest rain just to our east, but we'll need to monitor trends as heavy rainfall locally remains possible. Stay tuned.
